Key Local Issues

City of Seattle: Climate Action Plan Mandatory Building Tune-Ups

Legislation passed last year requiring building tune-ups.  Your Advocacy team worked with the city both on the legislation and on the director’s rule process that followed.  The director’s rule will be finalized shortly and we will be getting information out regarding the specific requirements.

King County: Transportation Task Force
The Transportation Task Force is a workgroup of the Government Affairs Committee.  They are tracking key transportation projects in the County and engaged with the transportation agencies to educate about the impact of the projects on BOMA member buildings and provide alternative solutions.

City of Seattle: Head Tax
The City Council considered reinstating the Business Head Tax as part of the budget process.  The Council voted to reject the proposal by a narrow margin of 4-5.

City of Seattle: Waterfront Local Improvement District (LID)

With the expectation that Bertha will complete the tunnel this Spring, the city has restarted the LID process.  They expect to collect over $200 Million through the LID, which is an assessment of real property taxes to pay for certain projects in the development of the Waterfront Park.  Your Advocacy team will continues to work directly with the city to ensure a transparent process and that there is a fair assessment of value for our members.
