Companies in Bellevue
have the opportunity to participate in Urban Smart Bellevue, a no-cost program
sponsored by PSE (Puget Sound Energy) and City of Bellevue aimed at making powerful energy-saving
practices in commercial buildings. Urban Smart Bellevue seeks to engage
facility managers and building occupants in adopting actions to conserve
energy, including powering off workstation devices and turning off lights when
not in use. The program aims to recruit 200 businesses to collectively reduce
energy waste by 16 million kWh annually, enough energy to power
16 average commercial buildings a year.
The program provides no-cost
resources to help participating businesses, from energy management software to
engagement campaign challenges to get occupants excited to save energy. At
Microsoft, a worldwide leader in facility energy management, facilities head,
Mohan Reddy is excited for the program. "Creating awareness with employees is
always a challenge. We’re really looking forward to leveraging the Urban Smart
program’s tools and resources to better engage our Bellevue-based employees in
fun, energy saving activities that make a lasting impact on energy use in our
buildings.” Microsoft is among the early participants in the program, which include
the Sheraton, Westin, Meydenbauer Center, Urban Renaissance Group, Hines, Fana
Group, Virginia Mason, and Apptio.
