Buildings are increasingly complex – new buildings have new technologies, and existing buildings are constantly modified for new purposes. Facilities operators should be using technology to move from reactive maintenance mode to proactive and predictive maintenance practices. Best practices are based in the right balance of technology and technical expertise – data and software in service of people. The components of exceptional O&M programs include comprehensive facilities assessments and equipment inventories; maintenance plans built on specific preventative and predictive maintenance data; and, right-sized performance tracking through data analytics and proactive maintenance.
