BOMA’s January general meeting lunch will feature a presentation and discussion by BOMA member and real estate tax expert, Scott Edwards from Lane Powell PC. He will discuss the various taxes such as sales tax, B & O tax and other tax situations that apply and do not apply to commercial real estate.
Scott will talk about a new and emerging tax enforcement and collection effort by the Washington State Department of Revenue to collect sales tax on the reimbursable – recoverable expenses for work performed by your staff (engineers especially). The department is using existing law which has not been widely enforced in the past – classifying these reimbursable expenses as a retail activity subject to the sales tax. In addition, the presentation will cover when janitorial work is not subject to the sales tax and when it is.
Please note that A $20 late registration fee will apply to reservations made after 3:00pm on the preceding Thursday and no refunds will be given for cancellations made after 3:00pm on The preceding Thursday. Substitutions welcome.
