[Bellevue] May Engineer Skills Hour
Maintaining Aging Building Exteriors
Speaker: Travis Brammer, Evolution Architecture

Maintaining and upgrading the building exterior is a critical aspect of the building engineer’s job. Over the past few years we have seen a spike in significant building repairs around King County. This is due in part to the building  boom of the 1980’s where many of our structures are reaching the 20-30 year mark. Another aspect is the current building boom, owners are spending money on their existing structures to compete with new product that is coming on-line. Our session is designed to cover items that relate mainly to maintenance with some discussion about upgrades. This session will cover curtain wall maintenance, plaza renovation, new innovative repair products, and new HIGH IMPACT OSHA requirements for construction projects.

This month's Engineer Skills Hour will cover the following:

Curtainwall Maintenance and Repairs

  • Loose mullion caps
  • Repair methodology
  • Appropriate products
  • Statute of limitations for defective components

Plaza Renovation and Repairs
  • Planter Waterproofing
  • Detail considerations for components such as Steps, Railings, Doors, Lighting
  • Appropriate products

New and/or HIGH IMPACT Code Requirements

  • What we know about new silica requirements, HIGH IMPACT to all repair projects
  • Learn when it is required to test for hazardous materials on repair projects

Innovative Repair Products
  • New split slab waterproofing repair technology, low tenant impact, lower cost, high performance
  • Translucent elastomeric waterproof coating
