Seattle Makes a Trip to San Antonio!

On June 23-26, thousands of property managers, vendors and local BOMA representatives from around the world attended this year's BOMA International Conference & Expo in San Antonio Texas. Over 30 BOMA Seattle King County members showed up to the conference to represent our local. This year's conference included education sessions, special interest group meetingsandthe International TOBY Awards.

This year, one of the strategic goals of BOMA Seattle King County is to recruit and grow new and existing talent by leveraging our Emerging Professionals group. In an effort to move toward that goal, BOMA Seattle King County partially funded an Emerging Professional, to attend the Conference.Travis Brittingham from CBREattended informational sessions and meetings, explored the tradeshow expo and made connections with other EPs from other parts of the country. He was even selected to win $500! Read more about Travis' experiencehere.

Highlights from the Conference:
-Day One: America's First Twins Share the Importance of Community; Coleman Scholarship Recipients Experience BOMA 2018
-Day Two: Trials and Triumphs for Women in Commercial Real Estate; Attracting the Next Generation of Talent
-Day Three: The Amenities That Tenants Really Want: A Night of Celebration at the TOBY

Travis Brittingham - My BOMA International Conference Experience

Overall, this experience in being my first attended BOMA Conference (or any conference for that matter) was all positives and I look forward to opportunities down the road to continue to be involved. The sessions proved to be informative, educational and diverse in the topics covered and provided invaluable information and tidbits that I am able to now take back with me and apply at properties currently under my management and those down the pipeline.

Beyond the educational series, the opportunity to network and connect with industry professionals from across the nation was amazing. The number of contacts I have made and actually kept in touch with since the end of the conference surpasses my expectations. One of the big topics and room for improvements we discussed at the EP Committee was information and knowledge sharing. What better way to start than to expand our connections?!!

Exploring the city and spending quality time with the BOMA crew and the Seattle group was something I cherished. We see and communicate with each other so much in a “work environment” and it was really nice to break away from that a bit and get to know everyone on a more personal level. We are lucky to be surrounded by such a supportive and successful group!

One lasting memory I will never forget: Running through the streets wearing flip flops in 95-degree weather in a mad dash attempt to claim $500 cash only to arrive 7 minutes too late. A random raffle drawing that Rod said and I quote “In all my years of attending these conferences, not once has a name been called from our Seattle group. And Travis, I can promise you, it will never happen again.” Well, Rod, that sure is a bummer and I’m going to test my luck to prove you wrong next year in Salt Lake City😊.

A big thank you to everyone at BOMA Seattle for selecting me to represent the Emerging Professional sponsorship for 2018. It was a true honor to receive and I hope my representation provided value to this year's initiatives.

Cheers,
Travis Brittingham
