Downtown Seattle Property Owners and Managers Concerned After Recent Shootings

It’s time for action.

[SEATTLE, January 23, 2020] The Building Owners and Managers Association Seattle King County (BOMA) is deeply concerned about the recent shootings in the commercial and retail core of downtown Seattle.  We send our deepest sympathy to the victims and their families.

BOMA’s members in Seattle represent the owners, managers, and service providers of the majority of the office and retail buildings in downtown Seattle.  We recognize the public safety challenges that our members face on a daily basis.  Our employees, tenants, service providers and visitors have a right to expect a safe environment in downtown.

To say that crime is down is false; a recent survey of our members shows that due to lack of response, reporting is down. Public safety in downtown must be a priority for our Mayor, City Council and Prosecutor’s Office, and immediate action needs to occur. Continuing on a path of denial and failing to provide the resources necessary to solve this problem is not an option.
