BOMA International Advocacy Update: Government Affairs on Demand

Over the last several months, the Advocacy department has been developing a new program, “Advocacy on Demand.” The goal is to provide BOMA members with virtual tools to assist in their advocacy efforts. The first three videos of the series, BOMAPAC, Industry Defense Fund and How to Lobby, are linked below, and can be accessed at videos.boma.org. The videos cover topics ranging for how to hold a PAC fundraiser to tips for meeting with state and federal lawmakers. The IDF video explains how this important program assists the industry in facing unexpected challenges, such as funding efforts to defeat tax increases targeted at commercial real estate. We hope you will find the videos useful and encourage you to post them online and share them at your meetings and events. New videos are in the works, covering codes, carbon reduction and other key issues.

Lobbying 101
As in-person lobbying starts to resume, and in preparation for the Winter Business Meeting & National Issues Conference, the federal advocacy team produced this short video to help guide you through the process of setting up and conducting meetings with your legislators. From sending meeting requests to strategic lobbying campaigns, this is a great resource to promote your business and BOMA International in both state houses and on Capitol Hill. Industry Defense Fund
The Industry Defense Fund (IDF) video provides an overview of this important, member-driven program. It includes background on the IDF process and history, and it concludes with testimonials from some of our BOMA local associations. This video is a particularly good resource for sharing with colleagues and showing at meetings to illustrate the value of the BOMA network.
 
BOMAPAC
BOMAPAC (n.) - BOMAPAC is BOMA International’s political action committee. It enables BOMA International’s advocacy team to raise money to re-elect political candidates for federal office on both sides of the aisle who know, understand and support policies that affect commercial real estate.
 
BOMAPAC is crucial resource for our advocacy efforts. This video provides information on BOMPAC’s issues that impact building operations, commercial real estate financing and workforce development. These issues are key for our industry to thrive, engage with candidates and educate them about the issues our industry is facing.
