A Brand-New Experience by Gabe Vasquez (Building Engineer, Unico Properties) - DEI Scholarship Recipient

I want to start by expressing my sincere gratitude to the BOMA Greater Seattle Team and all my colleagues from the Northwest. Attending my first BOMA Conference was a fantastic experience, though it was also at times a bit overwhelming. Thanks to the support from friends and colleagues, I was able to navigate the conference effectively, connect with a diverse range of people, learn a whole lot, and truly enjoy the experience. While I spent a lot of time with individuals from the Pacific Northwest, some of the most fascinating conversations were with people from regions far outside my usual circle. It was enlightening to see not only the differences in the real estate market but also the cultural differences and discuss the good and bad occurring in their neck of the woods. These exchanges continued to be a highlight of my time in Philadelphia.

During my time at the conference, I was fortunate enough to carve out some extra hours to explore the city's rich cultural and historical landscape. I did my best to take full advantage of this opportunity to visit several local museums and historic sites, which was an absolute delight for me as I have always been a passionate history enthusiast. Just wandering through the corridors of these museums and standing at the sites where pivotal moments in history unfolded felt incredibly strange and fulfilling. It was a dream come true to immerse myself in the very places where significant historical events took place. Many different locations offered a unique glimpse into the past, and the experience of seeing these landmarks in person was incredibly memorable. The opportunity to connect with history in such a personal way was something that will continue to stick with me for a long time.
Once again, I just want to reiterate how thankful I am for this opportunity and all of those who helped to make the experience as meaningful as it was.
