3/8/17 Engineer Skills Hour presented by Travis Brammer, Evolution Architecture.
Maintaining and upgrading the building exterior is a critical aspect of the building engineer’s job. Over the past few years we have seen a spike in significant building repairs around Seattle. This is due in part to the building boom of the 1980’s where many of our structures are reaching the 20-30 year mark. Another aspect is the current building boom, owners are spending money on their existing structures to compete with new product that is coming on-line.
Our session is designed to cover items that relate mainly to maintenance with some discussion about upgrades. This session will cover curtain wall maintenance, plaza renovation, new innovative repair products, and new HIGH IMPACT OSHA requirements for construction projects.

At this point, roofing materials are typically removed, the trash sent to landfills, and the entire assembly, including insulation, installed new. Sometimes roofing systems can be recovered but the success of this method is often limited. This power hour outlines when a recover is advantageous, pitfalls to avoid, and a few methods to make your recover a success.
